چکیده

An ascending lumbar vein passing through a foramen on the right pedicle of the third lumbar vertebra unilaterally, which was diagnosed incidentally during virtual CT colonoscopy of a patient with a rectal tumor, is described. Recognition of this anatomic variation is important to avoid diagnostic misinterpretations and transpedicular interventions such as percutaneous vertebroplasty or surgical instrumentation that may result in excessive hemorrhage and inadvertent leak of cement when it is present.

Percutaneous transpedicular biopsy of the spine.

STUDY DESIGN Despite increasing information regarding pedicular instrumentation, the transpedicular biopsy of the vertebral body has not been popularized. The precise technique for percutaneous transpedicular biopsy and the volume of the vertebral body accessible through the pedicle has not been reported. OBJECTIVE To describe the percutaneous transpedicular biopsy, its diagnostic yield, to d...

Transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF) and unilateral transpedicular fixation.

TLIF (transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion) is a method of interbody fusion, which is alternative to other vertebral fusion wherein, with an approach through intervertebral foramen, through lateral segment of intervertebral space, complications occurring with other methods are reduced. Today, there are numerous versions of this method in terms of implants and transplants. At our Department pa...

Kyphoplasty for vertebral compression fracture via a uni-pedicular approach.

BACKGROUND Percutaneous kyphoplasty using a bone expander polymer device, such as percutaneous vertebroplasty and balloon kyphoplasty, is a therapeutic intervention for painful osteoporotic vertebral body compression fractures. Typically the procedure involves placement of bilateral Sky Bone Expanders in the fractured vertebral body via a transpedicular approach. We describe performance of "SKy...

Unilateral transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF) using a single cage for treatment of low grade lytic spondylolisthesis.

The authors conducted a prospective study on 30 patients with low grade lytic spondylolisthesis, who underwent unilateral transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF) using a single cage with adjunctive pedicular fixation. There were 17 males and 13 females with a mean age of 39.5 years. The mean follow-up period was 32 months. The overall clinical results were excellent or good in 90% of the ...

Impact and clinical significance of pedicle length on spinal canal and intervertebral foramen area.

The aim of this study was to measure changes in the cross-sectional area of the spinal canal and the area of the intervertebral foramen for each pedicle segment before and after the pedicle extension using computer-simulated transpedicular osteotomy to provide a theoretical basis for clinical decompression in the lumbar spinal canal. Using spiral CT scanning of the original lumbar spine, a fini...
